About The Ruthven Tales

tales for the young and young at heart

the Pond dwellers

A vibrant community of frogs, toads, and newts live in the two ponds and the wandering stream running between the two. There is always some mischief going on and Big Magda has her hands full trying to keep order.

the Family

Granny is a witch, so is mum actually but she is in denial. Dad is quite batty and locked in competition with Tractor Tom. Iona is a determined little baggage with a heart of gold. Hamish is cute, but knows it and is distinctly crafty to boot. Papa is in cahoots with the children to subvert order.

the Pets

Lily wants to be friends with everyone. Snuffy has a master plan for world domination. Pingu craves a bit of peace and quiet. Timmy is on a quest. The Aunties gossip all day and the Shunas and Catrionas are just in love with Dad.

You can read Kant by yourself, if you wanted to; but you must share a joke with someone else.

Robert Louis Stevenson

About the author

I grew up in the Scottish Borders and started this collection as stories for my children. I have been adding to it recently and thought it might be nice to share.
